5 Engine Noises Not To Ignore

As a car owner, hearing strange noises coming from under the hood can be concerning. While many of these noises may be normal, there are a few sounds that should not be ignored and are indicators of major issues.

1. Engine Hisses

A hissing engine could be an indicator that your engine is overheating or that the exhaust system/catalytic converter is plugged. It could also indicate that a vacuum has leaked. Whining or grinding sounds coming from your automatic transmission can lead to problems with your planetary gear system. Leaving this unattended can cause serious damage throughout your transmission.

5. Car “Whirrs” While Accelerating

A whirring noise when accelerating your vehicle sounds like the engine is struggling to perform. The causes of this could be many, from worn-out universal joints, a lack of lubricant, or a faulty torque converter. No matter the cause, if you’ve noticed this sound it’s time to schedule a visit to your mechanic.
